Michelle is a trial attorney and national advocate for sexual abuse survivors. She has represented clients in high-profile cases such as the litigation against the United States Olympic Committee, USA Gymnastics, and Michigan State by former gymnasts who were sexually abused by disgraced Olympic team doctor, Larry Nassar. She has filed lawsuits on behalf of clergy abuse survivors in Pennsylvania connected to the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report and against the University of Southern California for sexual abuse against students by USC’s on campus doctor. Michelle currently represents several hundred sexual abuse survivors in civil lawsuits around the nation. A former World Cup champion in slalom water skiing, Michelle now uses that competitive drive to champion clients’ cases. Michelle started her legal career in criminal defense where she handled and tried multiple death penalty cases and numerous other felony cases. That background and intense trial experience allowed Michelle to develop a unique understanding of the justice system and an intuitive understanding of how to work with clients and their families in traumatic circumstances. She also developed the skill of being a voice for her clients, not just in the courtroom, but also through various news and media outlets. She is a frequent voice in the media, from CNN to USA Today.

Michelle was recently involved in spearheading Texas legislation to extend the civil statute of limitations for child sexual abuse from 15 to 30 years. She organized a number of the Nassar survivors she represents to testify with her in the Texas Senate on the bill. The legislation (Texas HB 3809) passed and was signed into law by the Texas Governor in June 2019. Michelle’s firm was also one of four law firms who commissioned a report called CHURCH INFLUENCING STATE: How the Catholic Church Spent Millions Against Survivors of Clergy Abuse. Michelle was named to The National Trial Lawyers’ Top Trial Lawyers list, and a Top 10 National Trial Lawyer for Women’s Rights. She has also been named to Texas SuperLawyers Rising Star list for 2015-2019. For the past 2 years, Michelle has also been recognized as a Texas SuperLawyers Rising Star list “Up and Coming Top 100 Lawyer” and “Up and Coming Top 50 Women Lawyer.” A frequent speaker, Michelle has presented on Title IX, #MeToo cases, dealing with the media, jury selection, mitigation and the meaning of service as a trial lawyer.
