Mr. Douglas is a nationally renowned trial attorney recognized around the country as a trailblazer in the field of Products Liability and Environmental Law. He has tried hundreds of cases and obtained dozens and dozens of million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. Mr. Douglas began a remarkable streak when he scored the first win in the nation against the automobile industry for a defective airbag that killed a six-year-old boy. He followed that with the first victory in the history of the State of New York against the Tobacco Industry, securing a verdict of $20 Million for the death of a 58 year old smoker. Mr. Douglas achieved notoriety when in the span of just a few weeks he obtained back-to-back $8 million dollar verdicts against two different pharmaceutical industry giants- Johnson & Johnson in a medical device case and Merck in a case involving the drug Fosamax.
More recently, Mr. Douglas has spearheaded the litigation against the chemical industry giant DuPont regarding the dumping of the dangerous and cancer-causing chemical C8 into the Ohio River causing cancer clusters in the communities along the river resulting in a $690 Million settlement on behalf of thousands of residents of Ohio and West Virginia.
Mr. Douglas hit the trifecta trying the first three such cases resulting in victories of $1.6 million, followed by a $5.6 million verdict and finally topped off with a $12.5 million verdict including punitive damages leading to the $690 million settlement.
Mr. Douglas has been quoted in the news for his outstanding verdicts and has appeared on local and national television including ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC News, CBS News, Fox News and others. Mr. Douglas is also the recipient of the prestigious Clarence Darrow Award in recognition of his skills as a trial attorney, his philanthropic record, professionalism and dedication to the pursuit of Justice.
