Speaker Bio

Judge Daniel J. Stack served as first an Associate Circuit Judge and then as a Circuit Judge for the Third Judicial Circuit (Madison & Bond Counties), Illinois from May 5, 1986 ““ June 30,1995 and from January 2, 1997 ““ December 7, 2010.

During that 23-year tenure Judge Stack presided over cases in every Division including Chancery, Miscellaneous Remedies, Criminal, Family (Domestic), Probate, and Civil. During his last 6 years he served as the Presiding Judge over the Civil Division, and was the Presiding Judge of Madison County's large Asbestos Docket while also presiding over a large Civil Docket which included many complex cases; i.e., Class Actions, major Professional Negligence (Medical and Legal), major Tort litigation and presided over the first Vioxx Jury Trial in the Midwest.

He also served as a member of the Illinois Judicial Conference as a presenter and as a Chair and Asst. Chair of the Evidence and Conduct of a Civil Trial Committees. Judge Stack was also appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to the Complex Litigation Committee.

Since his retirement, Judge Stack has been busy doing Special Master work, mediations and serving as a Trustee on the Flintkote Asbestos Trust. His Special Master appointments included:

Discovery Master for In re: Yaz/ Jasmine MDL for Hon. David R. Herndon, U.S. District Judge, S.Dist.Illinois (now retired and a member of the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame); again for Judge Herndon for In re: Pradaxa MDL; In re: Nuvaring MDL for Hon. Rodney Sipple, U.S. District Judge E.Dist.Missouri, to oversee the claims process and to divide the Common Benefit Funds (CBF); again in the Yaz MDL to make a Report & Recommendation for division of the Common Benefit Funds; assisted with the ALR CBF for Hon. David A. Katz (dec.) U.S. District Court, N.D.Ohio; Special Master to Hon. Nancy Rosenstengal, S.Dist.Illinois in the Depakote Mass Action (Depo designations for trial); Special Master for Discovery for Hon. David R. Herndon in the Syngenta mass action in the S.Dist. of Illinois then later appointed by Judges Herndon, Hon. John Lungstrum, U.S. Dist.Court, E.Dist, Kansas and Circuit Judge, Laurie Miller, Minneappolis, MN, to assist the Settlement Masters in the Syngenta MDL and mass actions and to make a Report and Recommendation for the division of the CBF for all of the Southern Illinois cases; and Special External Advisor to the Fee and Cost Committee (CBF) for Hon. Joseph R. Goodwin, U.S. District Court, S.Dist.W.Virginia in the seven Transvaginal Mesh MDLs; MSA Special Master for Hon. Edmund A. Sargus, U.S. District Court S.Dist.Ohio to divide Extraordinary Injury Fund and to apportion the CBF in the DuPont C8 MDL; and, as Special Master for Appeals of the Claims in the Invokana AKI settlement.
