Before joining Exigent, Rico Burnett practiced technology, media, telecommunications and intellectual property law. Rico then leveraged his wealth of experience in the legal tech space to start the Innovation Hub at Exigent Group (called the Mind Factory). Now, as the Director for Innovation, Rico is on a mission to help lawyers and law firms leverage technology in a practical, but powerful way.
Rico has created solutions in the mass tort, medical negligence, insurance and financial services sectors. As a technology consultant and implementation advisor, he has helped clients leverage their existing technology stack to optimize outcomes, and identify/evaluate additional tools and capabilities to future-proof their practice areas.
By leading a team of software developers, data scientists, mathematicians, accountants (and of course lawyers!) and partnering with Exigent's Medico Legal Services team, Rico has helped build powerful, but practical data applications. The goal of every project is to improve and accelerate decision making, and to better manage and mitigate risk and costs.
Rico obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science before receiving his LLB degree and qualifying to practice as an attorney. Most recently he has received a certification in the management of technical professionals and (to keep things interesting) he's been studying Norse Mythology on the side!
Rico enjoys raising his three kids with his wife. He is a big rugby fan, enjoys mountain biking and will sing along to almost any song on the radio!
