Rebecca Phillips believes in the power of the civil justice system to promote human dignity and good corporate behavior. She loves helping individuals utilize that power to seek justice, through both trial work and appeals.
Rebecca primarily practices in mass torts. Most recently, Rebecca was appointed as a co-lead counsel for In Re: Bard Implanted Port Catheter Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 3081, pending in the U.S. District Court of the District of Arizona. The case seeks justice for thousands of individuals who were injured by a defective medical device.
Rebecca also spent years working in the nationwide opioid litigation, which has been called one of the most complex litigations in the history of the U.S. civil justice system. She played many roles in the litigation, but she is most proud of her work as part of the team that secured billions to help Texas cities and counties recover from the opioid epidemic.
Prior to joining Lanier Law Firm, Rebecca represented nearly 2,000 women who were injured by transvaginal mesh. She worked up about 20 of the cases for trial before the cases successfully settled.
Rebecca has experience as lead trial counsel. She successfully co-led a 1983 civil rights trial that stretched nearly two months, including pretrial arguments. In the case, she proved that county social workers violated a mother’s constitutional rights by deceiving a judge and wrongfully taking her child.
Rebecca also serves her clients with her legal research and briefing skills. She has briefed appeals in Texas state court, up through the Texas Supreme Court, and she has written as amicus to the United States Supreme Court.
