Wendi Weiner, creatively named The Writing Guru by her parents, is a talented wordsmith whose gift for writing was discovered at a very early age. Wendi's journey as a writer began with short stories, poems, and essays, which now sit in a collection book compiled by her mother. Wendi's creative writings often gained recognition and accolades in various competitions from elementary through high school. She also maintained a knack for public speaking as a member of her high school debate team, which included traveling around the country and placing at national tournaments.
Wendi's forte in writing extended into her college years at Florida State University where she concentrated her studies in literature and creative writing. She graduated with honors in her major, English, and received a certification in Secondary Education.
After college, Wendi worked at a middle school in Miami as a Language Arts teacher and facilitated after-school programs and workshops to assist students in underserved populations with their reading and writing. Subsequently, she attended Stetson University College of Law, a top 100 law school ranked #1 for advocacy and #3 for legal writing. During law school, she served as a research assistant to the dean of students and several professors. This led to her being noted in various publications for her skilled research and writing efforts. Wendi also received honors in her legal writing coursework and was a recipient of the prestigious William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award for her devoted community service.
Wendi's legal career included 12 years of litigation and expansive research and writing experience while working at a 400+ attorney national Am Law 200 firm, litigating appeals for a top-tier statewide law firm, working as an assistant general counsel for a commercial insurer, and later as a litigation counsel for a Fortune 200 company. Simultaneously, she served as a distinguished adjunct professor of writing at local colleges for over 7 years and was nominated for Adjunct Professor of the Year.
All of the dots towards Wendi's passion for writing continued to connect and expand. Wendi formed The Writing Guru in 2010 (trademarking it several years later). That same year, she created a personal blog which chronicled her running journey and health struggles as she trained for two of the world's major marathons, New York City (2011) and Chicago (2013). Both of those feats became the catalyst for Wendi to follow her passion and dreams of becoming a professional writer and coach.
In 2013 and 2014, Wendi joined the careers industry, earning numerous certifications and advanced training in writing. From there, Wendi garnered recognition as the #1 Resume Expert and Best Executive Resume Writer, as well as earned the country's most prestigious designation as a Nationally Certified Resume Writer (NCRW). Significantly, Wendi was the 43rd NCRW in the country. Today, there are just over 60 NCRWs.
Known as the real-life writing guru and a top career expert, Wendi has been published more than 100 times in over 75 major media outlets. She frequently speaks at national conferences, businesses, and educational institutions for her highly-regarded knowledge and subject matter expertise. She is also a contributing writer to major publications, including Above the Law, CNBC, HuffPost, and Thrive Global. She is an author of a forthcoming book, “œThe Golden Ticket: Leveraging Your Law Degree & Finding Happiness as a Lawyer,” scheduled for publication in late 2023.
In her very limited spare time, Wendi enjoys spinning on her Peloton bike, spending time with her husband and family, being a loving dog mom, as well as giving back to the resume and careers industry.
