Speaker Bio

Joel Schneider, United States Magistrate Judge (Ret.), serves as Of Counsel in Montgomery McCracken's Litigation Department.  Judge Schneider served as United States Magistrate Judge in the District of New Jersey for 14 years.  During his tenure Judge Schneider managed, settled, and decided thousands of cases in all aspects of civil litigation, including employment, civil rights, IP, class/collective actions, products liability, contract, data breach, pharmaceutical, and other disputes.  While on the Bench Judge Schneider developed a well-deserved reputation for effectively managing and settling complex and multi-party individual and class action cases, including three multidistrict litigations.

Judge Schneider was appointed by the District Court of New Jersey to co”‘mediate the multi-billion J&J/LTL litigation involving J&J's baby powder.  He is also the Special Master in the MDL talc litigation (38,000 cases) and the coordinated talc (mesothelioma) cases pending in NJ state court.  In addition, he is serving as the Special Master in the Pennsylvania Opioid Litigation responsible for determining and disbursing attorneys' fees and costs.  Judge Schneider is also Special Master in Janssen Products v. Evenus Pharmaceuticals, et al. (patent).

Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Schneider practiced in the tri”‘state area for 26 years, where he specialized in complex civil litigation.

Judge Schneider earned his law degree from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College.
